Revenue at the insurer rose 2% last year as Guardian added nearly a million customers. Mulligan has sought to stay ahead of the curve by tapping into the gig economy, offering dental, vision, and critical illness insurance to a potential market of more than 50 million workers without a formal employer. That business, which also includes retirees, grew 56% in the past year. But Guardian could stumble if interest rates drop.
